My name is Heather Rochon. I am a senior at Oakland University, studying journalism and creative writing. As a student of both journalism and creative writing, I was drawn to this project from two different angles.
From the journalism standpoint, I thought that the Baldwin Center had a compelling and empowering story. I was intrigued by the work Baldwin did with the community as well as with the students of Pontiac.
From the creative side, I saw Baldwin as a bright light in a bleak world. Creativity is something I've always been encouraged to persue. I've had the privilege of exploring that through my education, but not everyone has that opportunity.
Seeing Baldwin encourage creative activities is inspiring because thinking about the world in an out-of-the-ordinary way is simply extraordinary.
